Project Overview
Bloody Ugly is my second attempt at the Global Game Jam. The theme of this game jam was "Repair". This time around I had a little bit more game development experience under my belt and was excited to be able to contribute more to the team. Once again, the part of the process that I enjoyed the most was the game design discussion at the beginning about how we wanted to structure our game and how we could make it fun in the limited time that we had.

After discussing possible ideas, I suggested a slight change in perspective. Typically repair is thought to be about machines, but what if our game was about someone healing themselves? Someone trying to survive. Bloody Ugly takes this idea and puts a funny spin on it.

In the game, you are a vampire who is injured and bleeding out. To survive you must suck the blood of villagers before you bleed out. The name of the game comes from the only other mechanic, by looking at enemies you temporarily scare them away. You are just so "Bloody Ugly". This allows you to do some crowd control to lock in on your target free from enemy attacks.

If you would like to try out the game you can check it out here on the GDC page and download the executable here.
